We are the Kansas City Astromechs, a FIRST Tech Challenge competitive robotics team in Kansas City Missouri. We are part of the Kansas City Robotics Foundation’s family of teams.

The Astromechs began in 2005 as a group of friends and families who started a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robotics team to provide hands-on technology activities for a small group of home-schooled students. As our students grew in age and numbers, so did our interest in robotics. We started our initial FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team in 2008. Over the years our families have expanded to field multiple FIRST teams from kindergarten through high school (FLL Jr., FLL, and FTC) , and we have helped start several other FLL and FTC teams throughout the Kansas City Area.

In 2014, our coaches and some alumni parents got together to form the Kansas City Robotics Foundation, a Missouri non-profit corporation, and IRS recognized public charity under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c) (3). Their mission is to provide hands-on robotics and technology programs and competitive team opportunities to young people and families in the Kansas City area, through direct coaching of teams and indirectly through mentoring of new coaches.
